A Common Thread

South Tri Army Navy team members easy camaraderie and genuine, evident concern for one another is clearly borne out of mutual respect and encouragement to go the distance, at the same time have some fun time together over burgers and burritos.

Army Navy is already wellknown for its burgers and burritos, but another factor that is making this establishment a buzzword among the multisport community is its advocacy for the said sport.

So supportive is Army Navy of tri-athletes that it actually gathered different personas to form the South Tri Army Navy Team — an eclectic group of six very unique individuals who come from different backgrounds and walks of life. Two things bind them together so to speak: a love for multisport and a love for good food.

Burger or Burrito?

Of course, apart from the extensive training and discipline that this sport demands is the important role that healthy eating plays. The South Tri Army Navy Team greatly considers the significance of their daily diet, as it fuels and aids their performance in multisport. That’s why they are thankful for the many healthy options that Army Navy offers.

One of the vital factors that nurture Army Navy’s offerings is their partnership with Great Food Solutions, the foodservice arm of San Miguel Pure Foods Inc. GFS heightens Army Navy’s menu and ensures the healthy benefits of their dishes by delivering only the freshest and quality supplies of meats, cheeses, and other ingredients. And with their help, Army Navy is winning fans all over.

Meet the Fans

As one who is into strength and endurance training and is always conscious of her health and diet, group exercise instructor Vanessa Agdon emphasizes the importance of staying in tip-top shape. "Take control of your diet," she advises. "When your body aches, it means your body is getting better, stronger. And don’t limit yourself to the stereotype — strong is the new femininity." When asked about her Army Navy favorite, she enthuses, "I like the burrito. It has a good balance of carbs and protein—and I need these for my job," says Vanessa. "I like it with garlic sauce and vegetables. The burrito is a better alternative than processed food. It’s important na healthy ang kinakain mo."

Other burrito lovers of the group are Sam Bautista, the youngest member of the team, and Jett Martires. For Sam, who is currently a third-year law student, the Army Navy Burrito is his top choice for fueling up, as it is delicious and makes you feel on the go. The Army Navy burrito is a reflection of Jett’s lifestyle: rewarding, fulfilling, and jam-packed with goodies. "I love the burrito because it’s filling. Malaki ‘yung serving unlike the others na halos walang laman— it’s just the wrap. I also love the chicken quesadillas and, of course, the iced tea," says the 31-year-old dentist who is no stranger to sports and athletics, as she has always been a "fitness addict" with a love for swimming.

Jingo Hervas claims he loves Army Navy’s burgers and that he can only eat them with cheese on top. "I like it with a tinge of spice: swak sa panlasa," says the leader of the team, who runs a bike shop and coaches others in a well-known gym. Jingo is also a fan of Army Navy’s Freedom Fries paired with a chocolate milkshake for a carbo boost. Gerrick Suarez and Betsy Medalla are both burger lovers as well. "I prefer the burger. I like it with extra cheese, onions, no tomatoes." Gerrick says with relish. A cyclist since 2009, Gerrick dived into the world of triathlon only in January 2012. Coach Betsy, on another hand, is one of the more known figures in the world of multisport, dividing her time between being a triathlon swim coach and blogger, enjoys a hearty serving of Army Navy’s burger with jalapeños and a lot of onions. "It’s really good after a really hard workout Perfect food fills us up," she says.

A Fun Mix

Most of the time, Army Navy is the first thing that comes to mind when the team wants to hang out and savor an afternoon enjoying good food and good company, and especially if they want to satisfy their cravings for those sumptuous Army Navy offerings. "Usually, Army Navy is our post-workout and post-race destination.” underlines Coach Betsy with a smile. It is evident that all six individuals have a common passion for multisport, and that means they are inclined toward leading a healthy lifestyle as well, Juggling work, sports, and leisure may be a bit stringent but the South Tri Army Navy Team believes that balance is key.

Army Navy guarantees a healthy mix with their offerings by ensuring that they only use ingredients that give these athletes with enough boost of energy to get them going.
